When I saw this, I immediately thought of how handy it would be on the jobsite. I have a Bosch 4000 that I truly love & believe its the best 10" saw in it class, but its heavy and I don't always need the capacity of that saw. This "little" DeWalt is perfect for ripping 1x stock for trim work & the like. I've even had it up on my scaffold. I've found the fence to be dead on and very easy to adjust. The motor has plenty of power. I think DeWalt hit a home run with this saw...Now if it only came in a cordless version!!

2.) Good from the box, even better with proper alignment

We got this six months ago for job-site use. It cut pretty well right from the box. The fence has a rack-and-pinion system that is clever, but not quite perfect. We measured the alignment error and have two fixes. If you want to know about them so you can save some money, read on...

Using a TS Aligner, we checked the alignment of the fence. The fence was near-perfect when we backed up to the mark, (going right) but it skewed by as much as four or five-thousandths when we moved the fence to the left. That's because the connecting rod between the two gears flexes and there is some "slop" or "play" in the gears. This is more noticeable when approaching the mark from the right. Sometimes this is referred to "lash-back."

The easy work-around was to always go past the mark ( and inch or so to the left) , then roll the knob back slowly right to the mark and try not to overshoot. That works OK, and it is free, but it is a time-wasting nuisance and won't provide the consistent accuracy that good woodworking requires.

SO... we replaced the metal rod that connects the two rack-gears. Instead of the stock rod, we used hardened O1 tool rod, which doesn't twist or flex as easily. The rod costs $12 bucks. We also adjusted the two gears to remove the slop. Now we had fair fence parallelism in both directions. Not bad for a twelve-dollar fix... but there is more.

After using the saw a while, several of us noticed it made burns marks even with reasonable feed-rates and a new blade. One rainy day, we got out the TS aligner again and checked all the critical alignments. Dewalt uses decent bearings, so the runout was not too bad. But there were a number of other small inaccuracies that added up: arbor run-out, slot-parallelism, fence alignment, blade-alignment etc.

It took about an hour of measuring, but the Dial indicator with the TS Aligner helped us get everything literally "dialed-in." Now this thing cuts as smoothly and accurately as our five-thousand dollar cabinet saws.

The secret is to choose a saw with good bearings and a design that allows adjustments.
Dewalt and Bosch contractor saws both qualify.
Use a dial indicator with a TS Aligner to accurately measure and adjust EVERYTHING. It takes an hour, but it is worth the effort MANY times over. If you buy a new saw in the box, you have to assemble it anyway, so that isn't much more work. ... You can get professional precision at a fraction of the cost of a cabinet saw.

We cut all kinds of mitered molding and trim. We make custom installations and complex speaker cabinets that require EXACT cuts. After we adjusted this with the TS Aligner, the noise-level was lower and blades stay sharp much longer. That's always a good sign!

The beautiful thing about this saw is that we can take it to the site, make measurements on a story-pole and cut exactly to the mark, repeatably and reliably. The saw's design allows you to adjust it, assuming you have the right adjustment tools: a dial indicator and a TS aligner. Those two tools are inexpensive and pay for themselves very quickly. You get your money back fast because you waste less wood, blades last longer and the motor runs cooler when everything on the saw is tuned up.

This is a good saw because you can adjust it and it has accurate bearings. With a TS Aligner and a cheap dial indicator, you can get many times your money's worth! Highly recommended!

I don't want to waste my breath here, so I'll just say its a good saw. I used it to rip hardwood flooring and found its smaller size perfect for the job. The reason we picked this one over others was the no monkey biz on the fence. The fence just snaps into place according to manufacture specifications. Its good as done; do it once and so far never again.
Its a little loud but that doesn't surprise me. Overall this is a prime saw. Its smaller size proved to be more functional than I would of imagined. The job went smoothy with this saw.

So far runs very quite and smooth for a commpact saw and powerfull, ripped 26 pt 2x4 s the other day preformed well.only drawback miter gauge doesn't lock in like the delta did and no where on the saw to store it but thats what my chop saw is for. My main complaint about the saw was the piercing, circular saw-type noise. I replaced the blade with a thin kerf Forrest Woodworker II and added a blade stabilizer from Rockler. The improvement in noise reduction and cutting ability was dramatic. I highly recommend this upgrade. The fence is great and dust collection works pretty well with a shop-vac (which drowns out the noise of the saw!).

The DeWalt's top features are it's extrordinary portability and it's unique fence. At work we have the classic Makita table saw that drops into the roussou stand, we also have the new Bosch table saw. At home I have an older less expensive skil table saw. I found the Makita never really lined up with the table and the table were nice but too often overkill. The Bosch is really great but expensive and not portable enough for me, although it and the Ridgid seem to be the best in that segment of the market. The skil table saw I have is fine- light but not durable or smooth enough for more demanding applications- big heavy rips or smooth trim rips. This new DeWalt is the best. Best fence- I love the rack and pinion. No more tapping the fence over with my tape or my hand. Roll bars on the bottom are ideal for pushing the saw into the back of a truck. Portable- it's not too heavy or bulky and still seems not to compromise on quality. I simply screw through the available holes to secure the saw to some sturdy sawhorses for an easy stand. My shop vac hose fits right over the dust chute and the entire motor is housed to channel the sawdust into the chute. Combined with a $20 tool trigger from Sears I love this setup. I think it's a 16" rip compacity- of course more is better, but I prioritized portability, and I found it plenty to build bookshelves or tackle big framing rips. DeWalt read the market and filled a void. Thanks!

I've been waiting for a compact saw like this since the old portable makita finally died years ago. As an experienced finish carpenter I am putting in my two cents on a tool for first time out of many purchases from Amazon for two reasons. One, the complaints I'm reading about seem to be without merit. And two, this saw is awesome. With every square inch of my truck needed, the compact nature of this saw is great. The ease of loading & unloading daily is made easier. It is sturdy, it cuts like butter, it's extremely accurate, powerfull, and changing measurements is a pleasure. If you have the money & need the extra space in the truck, then buy this saw. If money's a problem you can get the compact delta for a $100, and it works pretty good for the money. If space is a concern, all the other saws are too big and heavy for every day use. The stand is compact also, and the cotterless hitch pins work well for quick set up instead of the nuts and bolts provided

I put this saw right to work and it hasn't disappointed me in any way so far. I used it to do some serious ripping of several dimensions of lumber, both treated pine and western red cedar right away. It performs quite well, with power and accuracy. A minor adjustment of the read-out scale on the rip fence was all that was needed, all other settings were fine. I especially like the quick and accurate fence setting capabilities of this saw. I have an older Makita portable table saw that I also use, and I can work circles around it with the Dewalt, thanks to its power and easy to set up design. The light weight of this unit is probably one of the most unexpected bonuses this saw has to offer. The ease of portability of this saw, combined with the solid performance and fast set-up makes this a favorite tool to use already in the relatively short time I've owned it.

I had been using the same table saw for at least 10 years in my home improvement business. It's a Makita. Matter of fact I could'nt just junk it when I got the new table saw. Even though it had had seen better days and was a colossal pain in the you-name-it when it came time to raise or lower the blade and the blade and the fence never quite agreed with one another, I'm saving it just in case. But I got to tell you, I love my new DeWalt DW745. It may not be as compact as the Makita or as light but it out-performs it in almost every way (to be fair to Makita I should reiterate that mine was 10+ years old and I may have forgotten what it was like in its youth). But what really impresses me is the way the fence is operated and how easily it adjusts. Also unlike my old saw there is a on-board push-stick and prongs to wrap the cord. The table surface is very smooth and solid and the angle adjustment works great. For a portable table saw, I am very impressed.

I bought this saw at Home Depot on Black Friday for $300. The saw comes with a postcard which when you send in will get you a free 50 tooth DeWalt finish blade.
My use at this time are to rip lumber to make window parts for my rotting casement windows and to repair the mahogany trim of my peeling front door. The photos of the saw on Amazon are out of date. The saw is now made with a different blade guard, which detaches easily and is stored on the right side near the anti-kickback blades. The push stick is stored on the right side of the fance.
My saw blade was square, but the fence needed just a bit of adjustment to get parallel to the blade. It is about 1/32" farther from the blade than indicated by the built in measuring tape. You can fix this by adjusting the set screws, but I know to take this into account and measure manually anyway to be sure. I also had to adjust the riving knife which was a bit too far bent towards the fence: I think it would have caught the workpiece otherwise. I have it adjusted to give just a bit of pressure towards the fence.
I chose this saw because the rack and pinion fence is a snap to adjust. It locks in place with a lever on the right side. I looked at a lot of other budget saws, but none were as consistent in locking up parallel to the blade as this one. In fact if you are not careful with some of the other saws, you could have more than 2 mm or about 1/16" of difference between the front and rear of the fence. Blade height adjustment is smooth and stable for me with good lockup.
The saw has a right sided capacity of 16 inches, but if you relocate the set screws which determine the fence position, you can actually get about 2.5 inches more capacity. Of course this renders the built in tape measurement inaccurate, but that is something you need to measure anyway.
Dust control is fairly good, but you do get a significant amount of dust from the top of the blade which is not removed by using the large vacuum connection at the rear of the saw.
My first cuts were on 7 and 8 foot long 1x8 and 2x8 Western red cedar, which were quite good using the included blade. It will take minimal sanding to clean them up. After gluing them up, I ran them through again for final sizing, and it was dead on accurate, consistent width, gobbling up the lumber smoothly. You do need to support the piece as it goes off the saw table. I have an old Mayo stand (used for medical instruments in an operating room) which is adjustable for height, but of course you use whatever you have or buy an adjustable support.
I like the "roll cage" design, which ought to protect well against most bumps. The fact is the yellow plastic base is not really sturdy but it is protected by the roll cage.
It is easy to change out blades, thanks to the quick release throat plate.
The saw is loud, I use hearing protection no matter what. There is no braking when the power is shut off.
All in all a great table saw, maybe not for the pro woodworker, but certainly fine for the contractor on the go and home user, an easily adjustable and compact portable saw. We shall see how it holds up.

Excellent tablesaw. When I got the saw, the fence was perfectly parallel with the blade. The fence meter was off by only one milimeter, which was fixed in 30 seconds. You can adjust the meter by just unscrewing two bolts and moving it to the right position. Has very good power, cuts thick dense stock without problems. I had no problems removing and replacing the guard. Also, the person who said it had to be removed to do angled cuts is wrong, the guard tilts right with you, no problem. Like all the other tablesaws the employ this type of guard, you'll have to remove it only when doing kerf cuts. It's part of the design. Also, the person who said the lock to hold the blade at a certain angle felt like it was going to break off also seems to be wrong. My tablesaw has zero problems with this. I'd say be careful with the anti-kickback system dewalt has going on here. A little too strong for some woods and leave a slight scratch once you pass the board through. I've never seen a miter guage do the job it needs to do on any tablesaw. Including this one. Although it did help me make a sliding miter jig pretty easily.

I do regret not purchasing the matching stand (DEWALT DW7450) that's about 70 bucks, I'll be picking up one of those in the near future. Oh, and the width of cut measurement for the guide/fence is well thought out and doesn't have nearly the play of some of the other brands, just go to sLowes and check one of these out, then buy it here for less.

I bought this saw for simple projects around the home. Ripping boards is a breeze and the accuracy is excellent. I've ripped 1/8 inch shims 8 feet long without a problem. The saw cuts through boards with ease and no burning. To be totally fair with this review, I bought a Freud D1040X Diablo blade along with the saw and have only used it. I wanted a 40T blade not the 24T that came with the saw. The factory presets were almost perfect out of the box, so set up was fast. I only have one complaint. While adjusting the rip fence, if the rip fence latch has to pass over the adjustment knob the distance is so close, I have cut the top of my thumb on the latch while turning the knob. Nothing to bad, just annoying. Other than that, the saw is excellent.

I am a newbie to woodworking and I bought this saw at a home improvement store because it was on sale and it carried the DeWalt name, so I figured it was a good buy. Luckily, I was right.

This saw has done everything I have asked it to do. While I always want a bigger table saw, my garage won't permit it, so this compact saw is perfect for what I do. Its powerful motor (along with a sharp blade) slices through just about anything you put to it. It looks good and cleans easy and has a port on the back so you could hook up a shop-vac so you don't make a complete mess. The sturdy fence does a great job for ripping all sorts of woods.

The only thing that I don't care much for is the crappy miter gauge. It's c-h-e-a-p from top to bottom. The slots are not T-slots, so they just go in and out...like...just fall out. My particular saw miter gauge has quite a bit of play in it. So, it's somewhat easy not to get a perfectly straight crosscut. But, that'll all be solved when I get my sliding miter saw.

All in all, it's a great saw. It's powerful, reliable, mobile, and carries a good name. It's great for anyone looking for a high quality table saw that doesn't cost alot, weigh alot, or take up a lot of room.

Highly recommeded!

This is not the cabinet saw I will someday own at ten times the price, but it is a great little saw. I don't have a shop, so I do most of my work outside. I needed a light-weight saw I could carry easily, store in a small space and that would rip a bunch of scrap lumber I have been accumulating.

When I took the saw out of the box last weekend, I expected to wrestle with it for at least a couple of hours to get it ready to use. Imagine my disapppointment (NOT!) when the saw went together in just a few minutes. The fence was easy to line up and the blade was already straight and perpendicular. As expected, the miter gauge was a piece of junk, but since I do most of my miter cuts on a chop saw, that isn't a problem. I also expected to have to upgrade the blade right away, but the 24T blade that came with it gave me good, clean rips, so a new blade is no longer a priority. I'm not sure how the blade will perform on crosscuts, though. Because of the light weight, I was concerned about the saw sliding around during use. I set it up on a low bench and the rubber "grips" on the base kept it stable and stationery all day. I totally forgot my stability concerns until I was finished.

I spent the rest of that first day happily ripping my boards and was a little disappointed (for real) when I finished and had no more excuse to use the saw. Without shop space, my versatility is severely limited, but this saw has made a huge difference for me.

After reading every review on portable table saws I could find, I chose the DeWalt. The Bosch 4100-09 is consistantly rated slightly higher than the DW 745 on most web sites, but it also costs more and weighs over a hundred pounds. The price, weight issue, and the DeWalt rack and pinion fence made my decision easy. Yes, the DeWalt won't take a dado blade, but I'm strictly an amateur home improver, and if I ever need to make dado cuts, I'll get a bigger saw. I have had this saw a couple months now and it cuts very well. I'm considering a better blade, as the blade it came with doesn't leave as smooth a cut as I would like. I looked at many other portables in the store and the rack and pinion fence on this one is hands down the best one available. It was sqare to the blade right out of the box and has stayed that way. I could have deducted a half star for the miter gauge it came with if I planned to use it, but I have a Makita sliding miter saw for those cuts. Based on the reviews of others here, I use the miter gauge that came with saw to hold down papers and I use the Incra gauge I ordered to use with this saw. I'm glad I did as it is a seriously accurate device.
When I first turned this saw on, I was surprised at how loud it is (and I wear a hearing aid). However I believe I can live with that. I made a few cuts in some scrap wood and was impressed at how smoothly the included blade moved through the wood. The sawn edges were nice and smooth. Not bad for a 24 tooth general purpose blade. I made some crosscuts then flipped the piece I cut off over and held it against the other side of the cut to see how straight the cut was. The cut edges fit perfectly and the board was straight across at top and bottom. This saw and the Incra gauge make a killer combination. I tried a 45 degree miter cut then held the cut edges of the miter together to form a 90 degree angle and checked for squareness. OK I could see a bit of light at one end of the square but it was close. The miter joint itself was nice and tight with no gaps.
So far I'm more than happy with my Father's Day gift.

While short, the miter gauge slides nicely in its track, and the plastic angle piece has a handy screw hole to allow you to attach an extension if you wish. The working surfaces are aluminum, helping to keep the overall weight light while retaining durability. Even the saw height adjustment uses metal gears with large, solid teeth. It really feels like DeWalt obsessed over each detail of the tool, making it a standout bargain and a joy to operate.

Dewalt could have increased the rip capacity by at least another 6 inches. There is plenty of room to cut more teeth in the fence rail, for the rack and pinion. As others have stated, the miter gauge is cheaply constructed. I would have liked to see Dewalt use a T-slot channel, as the first time I carried my saw the miter gauge popped out on the floor. Also would have been nice to have the Soft Start capability, as their other saws have. Dewalt doesn't use a 3 prong plug on this saw, instead uses a double insulated 2 prong plug.

Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase. For the money and being that this is a portable table saw, it does what it does well. It's a very light weight, well designed saw. It was quieter than I thought it would be. My cuts were very clean. I bought this saw to use around the house and have limited garage space, so its size is perfect for me. And I probably won't need more than the rated 16" of rip capacity anyway, so I guess that really isn't much of an issue. I haven't connected the dust port to a vacuum yet, but I'm sure for indoor work it will keep clean up to a minimum.

Looking forward to many years worth of use out of my DW745.

This saw is limited in rip capacity, so know that going in. It is small, so there is no on board blade storage, which is a bit of a bummer. But that's what they're selling. If you want that, they make that in the bigger model. This little dude is great for flooring. It's straight, accurate, strong, and lightweight. Go with a thin-kerf blade so you don't bog it down. For what it is, it's a winner.

I needed a table saw to make some replacement kitchen drawer fronts. I didn't really want to spend a lot of money buying a saw to use only a few times - so I figured I would buy one of the many cheap $120 table saws that are available.

Unfortunately, every one of those saws was pure junk - cheap, wavy plastic tables, insufficient (and frequently broken) motor mounts, inaccurate, loose and useless measuring devices. I couldn't bring myself to waste $120 on one of those pieces of garbage.

I went back to my old standby, Dewalt. I own quite a few Dewalt power tools, and while, in my opinion, the quality of their products has slipped a bit in the last few years, they are still far better than a lot of the competitors' tools - you can be assured that it will do what you need, and won't break easily.

I ordered this saw online here at Amazon, using the free shipping (7-10 days, it said) - and to my surprise, the saw arrived at my door the next morning! Sure glad I didn't waste money paying for overnight shipping!

First off, I will admit I am not a carpenter. I'm a DIY'er who has above-average experience building and fixing things. I've built furniture, and can fix just about anything. That said, I was a little taken aback by the manual. It made quite a few references to parts of the saw using technical terms, without really describing what those parts were. It took me about half an hour to figure out how all the guards, fences and so on all fit together. I'm sure a professional contractor who is more familiar with the terms used in the manual could do it much faster.

The saw is SOLID. I mean, rock solid. The table is a very solid, flat, precise slab of aluminum. The bottom of the saw is surrounded by a tubular steel frame, and the remainder is tough yellow plastic. It's not light, at around 70 lbs, but it's certainly not impossible to heft around, and weighs far less than my compound miter saw. It has two well-placed handles right under the table top that make it easy to move around.

The guards are very good - using them correctly, it would be very tough to injure yourself. Unfortunately, for cutting larger pieces, they have to be removed entirely - which is the case for most saws. That said, for ripping boards and so on, they would remain in place and do their job admirably. Removing or installing the guards takes seconds, and does not require tools.

Everything is adjustable and all measurements can be calibrated - everything from the blade angle, rip fence, blade parallax - it's all adjustable. Fortunately, the saw came out of the box perfectly calibrated, so I didn't have to change a thing.

The saw is very loud - but then, most table saws are. I recommend using hearing protection as well as eye protection while using it.

Many people in their reviews bemoan the fact that it cannot accept dado blades. I couldn't care less, I have no need of dados, and the saw works perfectly for what I need it to do.

Overall I'm very glad I spent the extra money to buy this saw, and I expect it to last basically forever, just like most of my Dewalt tools.

Absolutely fantastic portable saw!! It's about time someone has offered a "portable" saw with small "stationary" power. This saw cuts through tough hardwoods with ease, so with it's compact size it is the perfect saw for small jobs without compromising power. I own the Bosch contractors table saw w/ gravity rise stand, another awesome portable saw, but when doing small jobs it's easier to not have to drag out a bigger saw to complete an easy job. The only draw back is the price and the chincy miter guage that comes with it.If they could cut the cost to $300 they would sell more of them but I paid more and am happy I did. I use it more than I thought I would. Other wise 5 stars easily...

41.) DW745 table saw
Reviewed by: Foursquare Mayfield, Ohio, USA
Rating:
While I'm pleased overall with the saw, I am really disaapointed that Dewalt has yet to manufacture or market the accompanying stand (DW7450). The usefulness of this saw is reduced by the lack of the stand and the safety in using this saw is compromised by the lack of the stand. Using the saw on the ground is not safe and it is too large to place on a small worktable thus the stand is an extra cost "must have" for this saw.

The saw is adequately powerful for for small on-site ripping. I chose this unit as an alternate and compliment for the heavier Bosch 4000 when I only need to rip a few boards on the job site. However, it is fairly noisy (not measured) and lacks the soft-start and brake accompanying a larger unit like the Bosch 4000.

Because of the relatively small table which lacks side and outfeed extensions, this saw cannot perform at the level of a cabinet saw like our Delta or even like the Bosch 4000 (which does have side and outfeed extensions).

The only improvements I can see dewalt making is attachments underneath the saw to hold the gaurd, fence, and miter gauge similar to what ridgid does with their contractor saw when in transport.

Anyone remodeling should but this saw...

In practice, the Bosch was way too big & cumbersome for small jobs and doesn't fit in my Prius. I think the Bosch is a much better table saw with a wider range of applications. The DeWalt DW745 however is the one I actually use. The DeWalt is smooth, exact, powerful and truly portable. I highly recommend it for those who need a high-quality portable table saw.

I needed a small table saw for home remodeling that could easily be stored and take a minimal amount of storage space. I needed a lightweight saw so that I could easily move it around and set it up by myself with minimal effort. I wanted a fairly inexpensive saw that had a quality easy to use fence. I have found that the Dewalt DW745 has met all of those conditions and has exceeded my expectations. I have owned the saw for 8 months now and have used it on numerous remodeling projects and am still very pleased with this saw. I really like the rack and pinion fence system, this is very easy to use and very convenient opposed to the traditional screw post fence. The DW745 fence locks down with a simple lever, yet another nice feature. Perhaps one of the more overlooked features that I find extremely important is that the DW745 contains storage compartments for the accessory saw tools such as the blade wrenches and push stick. In the past, with other table saws, I have always struggled with keeping up with the blade wrenches, especially for a portable saw.

I would also recommend the DEWALT DW7450 Table Saw Stand for use with this saw. It is a very handy accessory, it too is lightweight and compact for storage.

Please note that this is a lightweight portable saw so my review is based on what I would consider lightweight home remodeling, lightweight construction, and do-it-yourself-ers. This saw is limited in work table surface and limited to a 16 inch rip capacity, it is not intended to be a replacement for a full size table saw or cabinet saw :-)

** UPDATE **
This saw is still a great tool to have in my limited workspace. I have owned this saw for a couple of years now and it still works great. I did find out a while after purchasing this saw that there is no way to use a DADO blade with it. This was disappointing and I removed one star from my rating because I feel that had I known this up front, I would have looked at other alternatives. The saw packaging and instructions were not clear on this point. Still a great portable tool, just wish I could DADO with it.

Professionals doing heavier work will want to remove the safety guard, as they almost always do.

This saw was exactly what I was looking for. Big power good precision in a small package. I have limited real estate in my shop for tools. A saw that would fit on the shelf was exactly what I wanted.

Only this saw was to be my ONLY table saw. After much reading about the limitations, I decided to accept the additional clutter that a larger job site wheeled saw would take up. So I returned the Dewalt and bought the Ridgid TS2400.

I did however become intimately aquainted with the features of this saw. Here are a few of the pros and cons.

PROS

- Small footprint and lightweight. Thumbs up to DeWalt for recognizing the need for this type of tool.

- Rack and pinion rip fence. This was one of the top features that drew me to this saw.

- There are nice places to store the cord and the included plastic push stick.

- Big power

- Plenty of precision.

- Matches my other tools

CONS

- I know DeWalt was going for "light weight", but it came off as "cheap"

- The miter slots were not T-slots, just straight slots.

- There are no T-slots on the rip fence.

- Probably a side effect of being so light weight, but the saw will not accept dado blades. The best I can guess is because of safety reasons DeWalt installed a short arbor. You can probably imagine the whole saw flying backwards and slicing your buddy in two if you tried.

- The safety guard is a real pain to install and uninstall. Particularly annoying when you plan to store the thing on a shelf that requires you to install and uninstall the thing every time you want to use it.

- The miter guage is a joke.

- The safety guard must be removed to make a bevel cut at 45 deg. Another pain.

- To bevel the blade to 45 deg you have to support the weight of the motor, trunion, ...all the guts... with the knob that adjusts blade height, which feels as if it will break at any moment.

- The bevel lock is cheap. I thought that someone was just rough with the one in the store. My brand new bevel lock felt like it was going to fall off.

- There is no lock for the blade height. On my first test cut the blade moved during the cut.

- There is no place to store the fence, guard, and miter guage.

- The saw must be stored side ways on a shelf that isn't quite wide enough to accomodate the saw due to the feet being front and back and the middle practically void. The handles are on the sides, so to put it on the shelf you're forced to put your hands in the front and back on the rack gear...not so comfortable.

- In the rip fence there was about a 32nd of slop in the bushings that held the pinion drive to the table top. This allowed the two sides of the fence to wobble in and out independent of each other. Potentially this could translate into the fence being out of parallel by a 32nd. In the noise I know, but it is disheartening when this is one of the main features why I bought the saw. Why not install bearings, and give people that extra sense of security?

- The motor mounts had about a 32nd of slop in them.

SUMMARY

I hope I'm not being too critical here. Like I said, this is the saw that I wanted. If I were to have two saws, this would be my choice. But I can't have two saws, so I returned it. I bought a competitors saw that includes a stand. It takes up a bit more real estate than the DeWalt, but it can do everything a full sized stationary can do. I guess I'll have to live with the clutter. Nice try DeWalt, maybe next time.

I looked at table saws at the local hardware stores before I bought this. One of the best features this saw offers over many competitors is a more stable fence than other similar saws. In other models, the fence binds when I tried to move it. I didn't have that problem with this saw. It is not a floor model, thus the table is small and it is harder to keep everything square to the fence. However, I don't have the room for a floor model, so this was a perfect compromise between what I really wanted and what works for my space. I am happy with the purchase, and it is a great saw for the $$.

The Dewalt is the smoothest working portable table saw I have ever used and the size and weight are perfect, easy to move from job to job and the steel frame is durable, no plastic base to hit the ground and break or crack, and the rack and pinion fence is the nicest thing to use, and very accurate. The one and only complaint is the miter guide, come on Dewalt, if you put half the money into the guide, which gets used a lot, as you did into the guard, which just gets thrown away, this would be the perfect saw, I have never seen such a piece of junk as the plastic miter guide that comes with a high quality, well built saw. I bought this saw because I needed something small, I'm a weekend warrior at best but would love to get into woodworking more and figured for $299 + free shipping I couldn't go wrong. I already had a makita tablesaw and stablemate100 set up so I took a chance that I'd be able to just buy another set of bases for the stablemate and set this thing on it rather than having to buy a stand or set it on the ground or screw it to a chunk of plywood on top of a couple saw horses. Guess what.... works perfectly, and not tipsy at all!! I had to take off the rubber feet and adjustable legs on back to run the bolts for the stablemate base but who needs em anyway? Being on top of the stablemate it puts it a little high but I'm tall so it works out just fine. The rack & pinion fence with solid lock works fantastically... Glad I bought it! 4 stars just for not being able to go to 24" width...no biggie

The slop in the miter bar and slots is bad but a strip of teflon tape on the bar and a flat file adjustment on the slots gave me zero play. I measured a noload , in a room, 102 dba noise level and would not use it without ear protection. The loosness in the height adjustment makes me expect in time to have unintended blade height problems. With a 4+ hp vac there is a fair amount of dust that blows out on the right side. The real surprise came when I turned the unit over and saw what the in-store-bolted-down displays had hidden. Durability is the big question. I wonder if this is not intended to be a one or two year tax write off , throw away saw. Even at Amazon's lowest price this saw ( after 6 mo duty) is over priced. There are better choices.

If you like plastic (to be fair, hard poli carb), this is the saw for you. I am surprised by the good reviews to date on this saw to date.

Pros: 10" blade and decent motor. Small enough to fit on 24" shelves and very portable.

For the price I think the saw is inferior to Rigid or Ryobi at Home Depot and an indication that DeWALT is very proud of their name. If I had paid retail for this I think I would have gone out and shot my self.

The movable fence isn't bad but the clamps that hold it down to the rail are pot metal clips which will eventually loosen with no way to adjust them. This is what happened to the store model.

I kept the saw because it was the best unit in it's size class. It has to fit in my garage cabinets for storage. If you don't have that issue, reconsider the brand for this tool. I love DeWalt cordless system and their sliding compound saw, only way to fly.
