1.) Exceptional Table Saw

I am a finish carpenter and had been going back and forth between the Ridgid Table Saw and Bosch. Although I've used the Ridgid before, after researching the Bosch for couple of months, I decided to buy it. This saw is more expensive than the Ridgid but I must say it is worth the extra bucks. Very sturdy and accurate (once you do your initial setup). The gravity rise stand is ingenious and although I do not mind the 2 step folding saws, this saw always puts a smile on my face as I use the rise stand. Its so simple even a kid could work it.
The saw is higher than your standard table saws by about 3 inches. It does not sound much but it did feel awkward at first after using standard saws for such a long time. You do get use to it quickly though.
The rip fence is dead on and the soft start feature is a nice addition that prevents overload.
The saw is heavy but is easily loaded to the bed of your truck/van by placing the handles on the bed and sliding it back.
One of the worst features of this saw is the wheels. They are not large enough to carry over stairs. You will, I repeat you will scrape the metal bars behind the wheels frequently. Do not try to roll this saw over finished stairs. I am surprised that the engineers at Bosch did not recognize this.
Overall though, this saw is the best portable saw that I have used in years.

Got this setup after a long debate between brands, and I'm very pleased with its operation, though a few things aren't as good as they could be. I gave it 5 stars because it's the best one on the market right now, and competitors saws aren't nearly as well thought out as this one is, and are flimsier.
Good points:
- Packaging is very good. Lots of thick styrofoam, everything is secure and wrapped in plastic. The box is heavy walled, and shipping straps make an easy grab point.
- Everything on my saw was dead on from the factory, no adjustments were needed.
- The magnifying glass on the fence makes subtle adjustments easy, though it has to be cleaned off every time the saw is run.
- The equipped blade produces decent results in plywood and pine. Harder woods will cut, though not as smoothly.
- The deck is sturdy cast aluminum, strong and lightweight. It greatly reduces the weight of the saw.
- The motor's performance is unbeatable. It doesn't struggle.
- The stand is easy to use, easy to assemble and operates smoothly.
- The extendable side rail works wonderfully and is really helpful.
- On board wrench and blade storage is handy, keeps everything handy and tidy.
- It's nice that it's a saw and stand combo, it looks a lot better to my wife when she only sees one box instead of two (regardless of the cost of the items inside)
- The operating volume isn't deafening, but hearing protection is never a bad idea.
Bad points:
- If the blade is lowered all the way down inside the machine, the anti-kickback pawls get stuck in the plastic shield, and have to be carefully pried out so the guard isn't broken. The blade can be lowered below the deck for safety and storage without this occurring, it's only when the blade is lowered all the way.
- To padlock the unit, you'll need one with a really long shackle, and it can't be over 1/4" in diameter. Something that allows for a regular sized padlock would have been nicer.
- Lots of plastic below the deck. There's been no issues with it yet, though for the price I would have expected more metal.
- The fence storage doesn't really hold too well.
- This produces lots of dust, even with a shop-vac hooked to the exhaust port.
- A pusher should have been included, given the inherent danger of this type of tool. The miter gauge can work for this, but it's limited in use.
- The pneumatic tires are just another thing to forget about. I have a hard enough time remembering to check the tires on my car - now I've got something else? It also seems a bit silly to have them on a tool which will be used at jobsites where there will be nails, screws, etc. Solid rubber or foam filled tires probably would have been more ideal.
- According to the stand's instructions, you need 16 mm and 10 mm wrenches. Yes, the 10 mm are needed for mounting the saw, however the other hardware actually requires 17 mm and 13 mm wrenches.
- The instruction manual is detailed, though poorly formatted. It jumps around between english, french and spanish from page to page.

At 58 I'm done trying to save a few bucks with low end tools. I was about to buy a Craftsman to install our third laminate floor. But a common theme across all table saws was the hours spent in setting it up. I read NO such thing about this one. First thing I noticed is the well engineered zero gravity stand. This alone is genius. The soft start motor gets you 4 hp on a 120vac line.
I ripped laminate flooring as thin as a matchbook cover the entire length of a given board, amazing. I am not a carpenter by any means but this tool will serve the Home owner for decades. The built in vacuum hose attachment is great and the safety features a also great. My old table saw was a 7" Craftsman, belt driven over 50 years old and shook like an earthquake.
Invest in fine tools and your projects have a head start for success and the rest is up to you. Did not spend hours setting up anything. I used a machinist ruler and a square and the blade was so close it could not be measured and it is good enough for me.
Buy for name brand or invest for known quality the choice is yours and mine was very clear after using this one.
Hope it helps out you folks looking for a quality product and minimal hype. My second Bosch product and the quality shows even to the layout and storage of its tools.

I debated long and hard over this saw or a more fixed saw. I don't have a large indoor space to work in so I would have to mount casters on a more fixed saw like a Delta or get a saw like this. I finally decided I didn't want to be rolling a 300 pound saw around in a hurry to get it out of the rain so went with the Bosch. It took a while to put together, but was very straight forward and went together without a hitch. This thing is awesome. I can pull it out of my shed set it up make a cut and put it away in less than 5 min. It rolls easily over rough terrain, the fence is true and it cuts like mad. Great saw. I use it for joinery, furnture and general carpentry. It might not work for a production furniture maker but if you only make one or two pieces a year it is fine and for a contractor that needs to take their saw with them there is no better choice.

Can't think of anything bad about it. I use it everyday ripping 2x stock and building cabinets and furniture projects. Works good for dado operations, has an accurate fence and easy extendable table. I waited a long time to find this product on sale. The wait was worth it. This unit arrived as promised, the set up went smoothly. {would recommend going to Bosch website for assembly / set up instructions].
The saw was set up almost perfect from the box, very little adjustment required.
Would also recommend purchasing the left side, and rear outrigger supports as offered by Bosch if cutting sheet stock.
I am very happy with this unit, especially the "gravity rise stand", as I have very limited storage space - this allows me to store it in a coner out of the way when not in use.
I do not use this for heavy work. Primarily making furniture / toys for my Grand kids. It has been very satisfactory, cutting square and smooth, which is very helpful @ assembly time.
If looking for a quality product, I would highly recommend this unit.

Briefly, I did a lot of research and chose this saw. Amazon had it for $569. Added to cart, waited two days and then bought it. Got billed $599 as the price had changed in the interim. I complained about this and they credited it back without argument! Great customer service.
I chose the free shipping. It took three days, was reliable, and the saw arrived in great shape. One hour to put it all together and now I have a great little saw.
I do high end trim and cabinet work. This is no shop-based cabinet saw, nor is it quite as good as the Jet cast iron contractor saw we lug around. But it's portable (very) and cuts great. We put a Freud blade on it and it is fantastic. Really no complaints at this time. Very impressive given its portability.
And this much capability at $569 shipping included. Hard to complain.

This is only my second table saw, but this is a big improvement. The saw has plenty of power available and everything is easily adjusted. I've had the saw for six months now and have done quite a few projects. Only things I can complain about are the mitre slots (not milled well, see other reviews) and sawdust. The gravity rise stand words great and the big tires are helpful. Stores nicely as well. Absolutely recommend! Also recommend getting the table extensions as well, although they do sag a little.

I'll try not repeat what others have already said but I've had no difficulties with this saw including setup. From the smallest projects to the deck I just finished, I couldn't be happier with this table saw based on the other choices available.
With a lot of saws going cheap these days, this one is full featured and well laid out.
Pros:
- quick and easy to assemble
- the design of the stand is brilliant. Exactly what I wanted to be able to do and do it quickly.
- modern european style blade guard, riving knife and anti-kickback pawl
- decent push stick for a freebee
- will trip the breaker with the shop vac running (powerful motor)
Cons:
- Saw dust everywhere as others have reviewed
- I wish the plastic guard under the table was a little wider to make blade removal easier but the saw does have to tilt after all. This requires you to wind the blade almost all the way to the top.
- "factory" quality supplied saw blade is adequate but average
- sliding mitre gauge is just ok
- no featherboard included
Wish list:
- paddle switch I can turn off with my knee
- no fine adjustment wheel for tilt. This must be a feature protected by patent. 6 out of 5 stars otherwise!
- no miter slot sized groove in fence so I count mount a 3rd party miter slot featherboard
- entire table is non-ferrous alloy so no magnetic accessories won't work (par for this class)
Accessories:
I bought the two table extensions (TS1002 rear and TS1003 left) and they mounted without the difficulties other people have experienced. If you have any intention of ripping anything 50% longer than the table length and only have two hands, get these two add-ons.
I passed on the TS1004 saw dust bag because I prefer to use a shop vac for saw dust extraction. Whoever said this table saw was the greatest sawdust propagation device wasn't kidding: I cannot see how the saw dust bag would do any good. This saw would benefit for the type of bag the hangs underneath.
I have no idea why the combo 4100DG-09 kit below costs more than this kit and the digital gauge sold separately. I'm sure a lot of people who bought the other box felt ripped off.
Bosch 4100DG-09 10-Inch Worksite Table Saw with Gravity-Rise Stand and Digital Rip Fence
Bosch DC010 Digital Carriage 10-inch Table Saw
Despite a few flaws, it's the best contractor's table saw around as proven by recent sales.
5 out of 5 stars.

After unpacking and installing on the stand, I checked the alignment and most were dead on, only two small adjustments were needed and were easy to perform. I maybe spent 15 minutes on this and was up and running.
It has adequate power for my needs, I can rip 12/4 lumber without having to rewire it for 220V. I do however have it in a circuit with only 10' of 10 gauge between the breaker panel and the outlet so I have very little voltage drop.
The upgrade to newer style safety features like a riving knife is really nice.
The dust collection port is not very effective, even with a dust collector hooked up, I still have to vacuum under it even with just some light work, like crosscutting 2x4s.
11.) Saw Works Nice

I bought this saw at Lowe's as I needed it quick for a finish job.
One thing that wasn't too cool was the misquotes on tool sizes to put it together. It called for 10 and 16 mm wrenches and actually needed 13 and 17 mm, f.y.i. Keep that in mind when you get ready to put it together, and instead of wrenches ONLY, get a wrench and socket ready in both sizes. Other than that, the saw went together easily.
Using the saw is fairly easy, and if you keep in mind it is a jobsite saw, and not a cabinet shop grade saw, you won't be disappointed at all.
Accuracy of the tape on the table is awesome, no need to measure except for setting the indicator. The fence stays square to the blade all the way across. Take about 5 minutes though, and use some paste wax on both rails where the fence rides, and wipe it off after it dries, otherwise the fence will chatter when you move it into position.
One person on here griped about the magnifying indicator on the fence guide. Why whine? This makes it even easier to read. I don't get the whining about that. It's senseless.
The gravity rise is a nice feature, I also have the 4212-L miter saw with gravity rise. This makes the saw easy to transport and load. I have a Chevy Express van, and it loads up easily, and unloads easily. BTW, one guy showed me how "easy" his ridgid table saw folded up...the bosch has it beat by a mile.
Performance was nice, although I expected more power according to some of the reviews on here, but I have to say it didn't bog down ripping some hardwood for a crown molding shelf cap and also some 2x4's for a nailer that I ripped down then angled. Not a problem, they all ripped nicely and no jamming. Keep in mind you won't be able to shove wood through it like a shop saw or tree shredder, but you can take your time and do a nice, accurate, quality job.
Some people whined about the dust. It's a table saw. They make saw dust. I hooked up my ridgid vacuum to it and it cut it down significantly and kept it minimal.
Also, I used the stock blade with this saw. You know how stock blades rate, they're not going to send you a forrest blade with 400 teeth, but I am certain another blade would add tremendously to the speed and finish of cuts. I'll get a blade when this one gives up, or when I need one with a finer cut.
Raising and lowering the blade is a cinch. Adjusting bevels is a little awkward, as the weight of the motor sends it to an angle when you loosen the lock to make an adjustment. I'm sure they could work on that, but it would add more weight to the unit no doubt.
One person mentioned using the miter gage to push wood through. Uh, there's a pusher on the back of the saw.
The safety mechanisms are very easy to install and remove, both on the work surface and in storage. Keep them with you in case OSHA comes on the job looking for a cash donation.
I can't complain and I give this saw 5 stars. It is a well thought out saw and stand combo. It sets up easy, and looks professional on the job. I highly recommend it. It's nice to have 2 high quality machines that set up, transport, and cut very accurately and add to the professional level of my craft.
************** Update 6-20-2010
Again, this saw is a very good jobsite saw. Set - up and take down is very good.
I do have one minor complaint; this saw holds sawdust in places that is hard to get to, and hard to extract the dust. If you put the table saw upside down, a huge amount of saw dust will fall to the underside of the saw, after you think you have gotten it all out. The best thing is to blow it all out, then make sure the blade is cranked all the way down and carefully lay the saw on its table and then the dust will fall out underneath so you can vacuum it out. You'll see what I mean when you lay it on it's table. Doing this will keep all of that dust out of your vehicle.
Other than this, this saw is a very nice and accurate tool.

This is a well built, and well designed tool. Smooth operation.
And I'm pleased with the new features included in this model.
The gaurd system is about as user friendly as anyone could ask for, although my crew is still reluctant to use it.
BUT!
I was totally irritated that it did not come with an assembly or operating manual. I had to print it out online, and it's about 80 pages long. I also had to print out the manual for the stand.
A previous reviewer mentioned the same problem, and I'm wondering if this is Bosch's way to save a few bucks.
I emailed the company and requested that they send me a copy, and they emailed me back a link to the download page. I emailed them again and requested that they mail me a hard copy. I haven't heard from them.
For $600. they should include a manual!!!
Update: They have now sent me manuals at two separate times. The last one came with a letter of apology, and a free saw blade and case. Nice.

I had settled on either a Jet JWTS-10 or the Ridgid TS3650, but my concern was my workshop is only 10'x16'. When I went and looked at the Jet at Woodcraft, it became clear that both these stationary table saws (even with a moveable base) were too big (5' wide) for my space.
Based on the specs, reviews, video on YouTube, and Bosch's reputation I decided on the Bosch 4100 with the gravity rise stand. This is a first class, well engineered, well built saw. All the critical adjustments (blade vertical, parallel to mitre slot, fence parallel to blade, etc) were dead-on right out of the box. I installed a Freud thin kerf blade with stabilizing plate (highly recommend a thin kerf blade). I bought the side and back extensions which greatly increase the usability of the saw. Even though the miter slot is a T-slot, it accepts 3rd party accessories.
The stand is a beautifully engineered device. I don't anticipate taking this around a lot like a contractor, but I sure do like that I can fold it up and stick it in the corner when not in use and gain some space back. I am very impressed and pleased with this saw and easily recommend it.

This saw was hugely beneficial. Great blade and power -- very clean cuts (even after all that use still cuts like butter). The wheeled stand is the ideal combination of portability and stability. Some of the required safety features are annoying but not too bad. With the optional table extensions this saw is very versatile and the best value for the dollar I found.
16.) Pretty Decent Saw, Fence Sticks a Little
Reviewed by: just some guy Raleigh, NC USA
Rating:
The Bosch saw seems to work quite well for a table saw. I've had it for about a year. It's easy enough to move around because of the stand, makes straight cuts, and is reasonably adjustable. The guard is easy to remove if you need to, the blade is easy to change, and it's easy to adjust the angle of the blade.
This was my first table saw (since the one I used with my dad as a kid), so I don't have too much to compare it to. I can say that adjusting the fence is a bit cumbersome - it doesn't want to glide smoothly for me. Not a big deal, and may be par for the course with table saws.
The only other negative I can think of is the way the stand works - you have to bend over to lift the bar to wheel it easily, and raising/lowering it isn't the most intuitive thing in the world (I almost never drop it down as it just stays in my garage).
The saw itself works/cuts well. My wife used it with little difficulty (she made some bookshelves). You'll want to replace the stock blade on it, though. (After doing some research, I got a Forrest Woodworker I 10" 60 tooth blade. Just got it and haven't used it yet, but it's supposed to be an exceptional blade. I installed it in the Bosch with no trouble.)
I bought the saw locally instead of on Amazon, but I've bought other big-ticket items from Amazon before and haven't had any trouble.
I have no regrets on the purchase, and recommend the saw. You can only buy quality once - it's worth it to spend a little more to get a product that you'll be able to use for years than some piece of junk you'll have to replace.
As a final side note - I also have a DeWalt Double-Bevel Compound Mitre Saw (DW716, I think. Absolutely love it, by the way.). It gets much more use than the table saw - it's much more frequent for us to have to make quick/small/angled cuts than for long rips. Make sure you're getting the right tool for what you need.
17.) Need portable accuracy? This is it.
Reviewed by: John Treble Houston, TX USA
Rating:
I wanted something portable yet accurate. I researched quite a few table saws online and read all of the consumer reviews before deciding on the Bosch. The first saw I got home and assembled was DOA. The power switch was kapoot. So I returned the saw and got a replacement - perfect.
First of all, I especially like the safety features. The riving knife works great, and the anti-kickback pawls can save your life. The rip fence is dead-on accurate. I'm still learning more about the rip fence with the side extended, but think I've figured this out. I can now confidently set the fence per the markings and get a reliable cut. The miter gauge works really well and feels very sturdy.
The gravity lift stand is pure genius and allows me to stow the saw in a corner when it's not needed. Setup takes less than 30 seconds including plugging this baby into a 120 Vac outlet. The soft-start motor is a thoughtful design feature too. The saw's motor runs loudly enough to let you know it means business. I have a friend who nearly sawed his hand in two while vacuuming his shop and he didn't notice that his saw got turned on, so the loud motor isn't really detrimental to me.
On the rear of the saw is the electrical cord storage area, a very handy push stick (safety first!) and the saw dust exhaust port. This port connects directly to my shop vac and I'd say that better than 90% of the dust is captured into the vacuum. If you don't connect a dust collector, this port spews dust a good distance, probably around 8 feet or so.
The saw's construction put metal where it is needed, and sturdy plastic where it is not. This makes the saw light enough to be carried around if you choose not to use the lift stand. But this stand is so good, so portable, and so sturdy, you will want to use it.
So despite my first disappointment with a defective power switch, my overall satisfaction with this saw is extremely high. After using a small 8" bench table saw for over 25 years, now I feel like I've graduated to the major league and can make saw dust with the best of them. This saw has raised the quality of my work due to its accuracy and power. Nice job Bosch.
18.) Excellent Saw but...

the blade it comes with is a complete joke. Before I got the saw I ordered a Forrest WWII blade (thin Kerf) and did a side by side comparison, it was eye-opening. Needless to say the performance of this saw with a quality blade turns it into something on par with a hybrid saw performance.
Overall the features and fence are excellent. Mine was dialed in nicely from the factory, so there wasn't much time spent adjusting anything. The performance of the saw is fantastic, cuts incredibly well and the fence is excellent for a portable saw.
It's no secret that when it comes to table saw a portable saw is a series of compromises right out of the gate compared to contractor, or hybrids and cabinet saws. But this saw is a borderline exception, and with a quality blade becomes more accurate, more stable and easier to use. If your in the market for a portable saw, don't compromise by getting a lesser brand, this is not the tool to try and save money, table saw is the place to put your money and skimp on some other tool.

I've been using the new saw everyday after I get home from work for the last three weeks and have built a ash dresser and pine kitchen isle. The magnified ruler on the saw is very accurate and easy to use -- don't need to re-check with the folding ruler. The blade that came on the saw is pretty smooth, but I still finish it off with the planer. Easy to move, accurate, clean cuts for the price, I am impressed. I purchased this table saw about four months ago, and I have found it to be absolutely outstanding in every way. Delivery was fast and free, and set-up was simple, straightforward and well-documented. The saw was ALMOST totally square, true and ready to go out of the box (I had only to make a simple adjustment to the splitter, which was not properly aligned with the blade). The fence is solid and stable during use, but very easy to adjust. The blade guard, pawls and splitter are easy to install and remove when necessary. Blade changes are easy. The table expands to about 40" wide, which is very large for a portable saw (although you might want to make a sled so you can accomodate larger materials for crosscutting, as the table isn't very deep in front of the blade). Even the included 40-tooth combo blade stood up really well. The only thing that wasn't up to snuff was a kind of wobbly miter gauge, but a lot of saws don't include any miter gauge, so I can't complain (but I replaced it with an Incra anyway). I have only good things to say about this saw. If you have only a small garage workspace like I do, but you want a fully-functional saw, look no further!

It's great that the accessories store right on the sides of the saw. There is even a spot for the Allen wrench! The saw and stand are of excellent quality, the saw works perfectly, the safety features work easily and well - and it's easy to store it in the upright position in front of the garage.

Hi there,
I'm not an expert and this is my very first table saw but you don't have to be an expert to realize how well designed this thing is.
I was comparing this table saw with the dewalt DW745 and even with the considerable price difference i decided the bosch was the best option for me.
Things i was looking for:
- Size. Since i don't live in the US, i have to pay for the overseas shipping so packing size and weight really matters for me.
- Quality. I don't think i have to explain this very much :)
- Easy to use. I'm not an expert so the easiest the better.
- Flexibility. How many different things you can do with the tool.
How they compared against the 4 things i was looking for:
Size:
Bosch: The thing is HUGE so the Bosch had to win the remaining three by far for me to afford not only the price difference but the outside US shipping cost difference. This is by far bigger than the Dewalt
Dewalt: The best of the world if size matters and the smallest the better. This is a wonderful tool and a lot cheaper to ship outside us.
Quality:
Here i think there's a tie because i really think both brands offers very good quality tools.
Easy to use:
This was tricky because both are equivalent but the included gravity rise stand was very interesting for me.
Flexibility:
Bosch:
- Wider cuts
- Availability of rear and left extensions
- Digital display (i love gadgets and hate analog rulers for measuring)
- Dado capability
- Gravity Rise stand.
Dewalt:
- Small very well built table saw very portable but nothing else...
- Why the heck dado inserts are not available for this table?
Then add personal taste to the equation and the result was... Obviously the Bosch!
I decided to pay the premium and while still like the dewalt A LOT, i think if you need a table saw mainly for your shop and can't afford a cabinet saw because of it's size or price or even both, this is THE ONE. Just put it in place when you need it, use all extensions and if you need a further more add a Crawford WM5 Contractor-foots Choice Workmover Adjustable 27-1/2-Inch to 43-1/2-Inch Tall Roller Stand like i did, use it and the get rid of it when you don't need it anymore with easy and it's own wheels!!! FANTASTIC!!!
The stand and the saw are wonderfully made and designed, you just can't go wrong with this one. Need shop space and a table saw? this is the one. Need a "pocket" table saw for smaller projects? the Dewalt DW-745 is also fantastic.
Hope this helps

I love the way all the accesories including the saw guard have a storage point!
Soft start is great - no more blown circuits like I had with my previous portable. Crosscuts and rips great - I recently ripped 8' of 1 1/4" Cherry - no problem.
Bought all the accesories to got with it - the outfeed extension works great.

I had been looking for quite a long time to get a first table saw. Space in the garage is limited, but I wanted a nearly full size table saw with the capability of being able to move it into the house, driveway or backyard as needed for various projects. I considered used saws and Craftsman's, Riobi's, Porter Cable's, Ridgid's and DeWalt's saws but the reviews and features of the Bosch 4100-09 with the Gravity-Rise Stand ($200 plus stand for about $10) and the smart guard system made it the final choice. I waited until I had a 10% off coupon and got 12 months free financing to make the purchase, $494.00. I am very skeptical and doubted that the saw would match its reputation. Wow, it is truly great. My 17-year-old son and I assembled everything by the manual and measured with our square and levels. The smart guard system just snaps in place. The table is flat, the fence is perpendicular and has a solid T in front that clamps in back and front. The blade angle was perfect, but one of the miter gauge stops at 45 degrees could be improved slightly. The stand is robust and weighs 41.5 lbs. All together at around 100 lbs the saw and stand feel very stable. My initial cuts were very accurate and sliding and setting the fence for accurate cuts is easy to do. I am very pleased with this saw. It folds up and stores against the wall right next to the tool chest. I am happily surprised that it does live up to its reputation!

I own two "portables", this unit and the DeWalt DW745. The Bosch is as close to a big shop saw as you can get that allows you to easily fold up and pop in the back of the truck. The DeWalt is great for extreme portability but it is a couple of steps below the Bosch in precision.
The Bosch has a fence that is fabulous. It's easy to adjust and so solid and secure. The T-slot miter slides like it runs on ball-bearings. This gauge is the best I've seen on any portable - it isn't even close. The motor is very powerful which allows you to rip 2x stock effortlessly. The Gravity-rise stand really works and is a snap to erect or knock down. In addition, the wide foot print of the stand really gives a sense of secure stability. The table is a great size and stock floats on it like its riding on air.
The only drawback that comes with this added size and weight is that unit falls short for extreme portability. With the stand and its large pneumatic wheels makes it a breeze to maneuver around in open areas, however, in tight areas, such as small staircases/doorways/hallways you can have an issue. For that reason, I have the DeWalt - just pick it up and bring it where you need, but you're sacrificing table size, stability and accuracy.

I had a lot of frustrating little problems when I first got the saw but now that it's worked out it well worth it.
This is actually my second 4100. The first one was damaged when the box came open during shipment and the table top was scratched up by parts of the cart legs. It didn't help that the way it was packed the only thing separating the table top and the cart legs was a thin pieice of styrofoam with a cut out in the middle.
Anyway I received the second saw undamaged. There were some fit and finish issues. The table top had what looked like black fingerprint marks. I tried getting it off but couldn't...oh well...no big deal it's cosmetic. The second problem was not so trivial. The riving knife assembly was loose and not square to the table or lined up to the blade. There were no instructions in the manual on how to align it. I emailed Bosch customer service but it took them awhile to respond (5 days). In the interim, I figured it out myself. There's two allen bolts that adjust the riving knife from side to side and a screw with a locknut that adjust the angle. After that the saw ran fine and the new guard system worked as advertised...modular and very easy to use.
The saw was running fine for about a week when I ran into my third problem. As expected the blade supplied with the saw dulled out pretty quickly. I replaced with the Freud LU83R010 10-Inch 50-Tooth Thin Kerf Combination Blade that I bought just for the occasion. I tried a few crosscuts and the new blade cut like butter. I decided to rip a 24 inch piece of 3/4" plywood. To my horror the wood binded between the riving knife and the fence as it went past the back of the blade. I checked the alignment and tried again...same thing the wood binds as it goes pas the back of the blade. Tried my Irwin Marathon 80T blade and same thing. It turned out that the Freud LU83R010 and the Irwin 80T has a 0.092" kerf while the riving knife is 0.091" wide. Talked to Bosch customer service and they confirmed that is a problem. Their suggestion was to try a blade with the wider kerf. I tried the Bosch PRO1050COMB with a 0.128" kerf and a Bosch CB1040 with a 0.098" kerf and they work fine. So beware when using thin kerf blade with this new riving knife/guard system.

I have been using this saw for several months and am quite happy with it. I bought it mostly because of the safety features: riving knife, blade guard, and anti-kickback pawls. Early reviews said that these devices are so easy to use that owners actually will use them, and that has been my experience.
The saw is well designed in other respects, too. The fence and miter gauge are easily adjusted and accurate. The blade height adjustment wheel is convenient. The only thing I don't like is the clumsy blade bevel adjustment: to change the blade angle, you unlock a rather stiff lever and the blade and motor assembly flops around--you just push it to where you want it and tighten the clamping lever. I would have preferred a wheel like the height adjustment.
The gravity-rise stand is neat. I don't transport the saw to job sites (I'm a hobbyist woodworker), but I have to work in my garage, and need to store my tools against the wall. The saw is easy to fold up and stores in very little space.
The saw arrived in good shape, although when the UPS driver took it out of the truck, the manual fell out. It's easy to see how some people get a saw with no manual. If this happens to you, I suggest you download the manual from Bosch's web site. I did this before the saw arrived in order to learn about it as soon as possible. Yes, it's 84 pages long, but after page 20 or so, odd-numbered pages are in French and Spanish--if you don't need either of those languages, you can just print out the even-numbered pages.
I recently acquired a thin-kerf Forrest Woodworker II blade. I was a little nervous about it because of the reviewer who had trouble using a thin-kerf blade because the kerf is too narrow for the wood to clear the riving knife. The kerf of the Forrest blade is variously reported as 3/32", which is .094", and .100", and the riving knife is .091" thick. I had no trouble with the wood binding on the riving knife, in both crosscut and ripping operations. (The blade cuts beautifully, too--recommended.)

The table saw works great. I used to own Dewalt's and, although a good saw, it had serious issues: The power cable had no storage solution, the guides would fall out of their slots when porting, and the start was so hard (as it got older) that it would jolt the whole table. Bosch solved these issues on their table saw with ease. I can turn the saw upside down and nothing comes out of its place (just saying, I don't have a good reason for turning it upside down). I wasn't a fan of the removable guide for a while because I didn't trust its accuracy. One thing I hate is the stupid plastic magnifier that is used for measuring. I'm not blind and don't need a magnifier. Plastic holds a charge, saw dust is attracted to charge and then you can't see through the piece. Stupid design from a smart company. The techniques I use keep me from ever using the actual measuring guide on the saw anyway. I haven't found a table saw yet that holds it's calibration perfectly so I got into the habit of using my tape along with a mark on the piece using the same tape. It's very fast to do this and offers near perfect accuracy.
About the blade guard: If you're a light home user, you should keep it on or consider losing some fingers, table saws are dangerous and should be seriously respected. Do not let your ego win on this, if you don't have a lot of experience with a table saw, don't take the guard off. For the pro's out there, I know you hate guards because they are inhibitive and some work is actually impossible with it on. It comes off very easily and looks great in the trash where it belongs.
For the stand: I love it. It fits on various popular models, not just Bosch. I use a van mostly to port tools (better security, no rain problems, easier access to tools). It slides out of the vehicle, rolls to its place on the site, and snaps to perfect working height effortlessly. One person and one trip is all that is necessary (unless you use a truck, I would suggest two people to get it off the truck). It's stable, the wheels are rugged, there are adjustable feet for uneven ground... this is a great stand. It sells separately if you already own a saw. I highly recommend this stand.

This is my second Bosch table saw and I love it as much as the first. The best innovation is the addition of the sturdy frame to the bottom perimeter. My old saw base cracked and shattered as it was too thin for repeated transport from truck to job-site. The saw itself, however, just kept on ticking and I expect the same from this improved model. I wish they had integrated a steel roll bar similar to Dewalts smaller jobsite saw, but what we have here is a vast improvement.
As for the stand, I'm probably the only person who won't rave about it. Yes it is a great design. My complaint is it simply takes up too much room in my truck. For me, the simple fold up stand that came with the older model is more useful. If you operate out of a van or are a do-it-yourselfer with a garage, the gravity stand is a great feature. Unfortunately, it just doesn't work well with the tool storage I need in the back of my pick-up. Also, it ain't light - I think it weighs almost as much as the saw itself. I might end up using this if I bother setting up a quick release system between the saw and the stand when it comes to loading it up.

The saw was shipped via freight in the Bosch box. Normally this bugs me, but in this case Bosch has bombproof inner packing with lots and lots of custom styrofoam pieces. No issue in my case.
Assembly was quick, about 40 minutes for the saw with no surprises. Another 45 to align and adjust, with most settings being correct right out of the box (had to adjust bevels).
The digital fence install and setup took another 40 minutes.
Pros:
* Love the gravity rise. #1 selling point
* Great guard system. I have always thrown guards away, this is my first one that actually stayed on the saw for a month.
* Love the integrated storage for fence, push stick, cord, etc.
* Saw power seems fine for this class, has done everything I would expect. Could be a bit smoother sounding though.
Cons:
* Digital fence not as smooth as it could be... fence has a fair amount of "stiction" when digital fence is added on. But after a month or so I am still using it.
* In my opinion a $600 saw should come with a better blade, maybe I am old fashioned. The stock blade will quickly become my scrap cutter special.
* Saw is just a bit more plasticky than I had expected. Even compared to my old Ryobi which went up in smoke this year. Plastic base is okay (and lightweight). But a stiffer handwheel would have made this feel like a much higher quality rig.

The first unit arrived in about a week, badly damaged in transit. I refused delivery based on the extreme state of the packaging, and the fact that I could see damaged parts inside the box - I did not want to take any chances on whether a precision tool could have survived that much trauma. I took pictures of the package with my phone just in case, and insisted on getting a copy of the shipping document, on which I wrote in large letters, "delivery refused due to shipping damage." Then I contacted Amazon - who could not have been more professional and apologetic, and - are you sitting down? they sent me a replacement by overnight air, that arrived the next day. Think about that for a second - a 124 pound box delivered on a palate via next day air service - incredible. In order to avoid the 4-hour home delivery window (and excess handling), I made arrangements with the shipper to pick the package up at their distribution center, which was conveniently located, during my lunch break.
The saw itself (and stand) were easy to assemble, and intuitive to use. Fit and finish were good right out of the box, although a reasonable amount of typical adjustments were required. I expect to get many years of service out of the saw, which will be used for non-professional hobby woodworking in my garage shop - I have owned Bosch tools in the past, and have never been disappointed. The fence lines up reasonably well, and like with most table saws of this type, one should always measure from the fence to both the front and back of the blade before committing to the cut. And though the blade supplied with the saw was not too terrible, I did also purchase a high quality Freud blade - I will keep the factory blade though, just in case I need to do some cutting that might be excessively hard on my expensive replacement blade. I also bought the outfeed and left-side extensions, and recommend them for cutting wider material more safely.
Finally (and this is why I only gave 4/5 stars) although the 599 price including stand and free shipping seemed competitive, I was disappointed to find the same package deal at CostCo a couple of weeks later for 499. Granted there would be sales tax, and you could argue the membership fee (if that was the only item you ever bought from CostCo - which is not the case for me) but the loss of 70 dollars or so did sting a little, especially since Amazon does not price match - plus the fact that I could have gotten it locally with an essentially unrestricted return policy, and would not have had the shipping problems or initial wait time, and could have picked out a perfect looking box from the stack. All told however, I am happy with my new saw, and will continue to buy tools on Amazon, but will obviously need to spend more time researching prices locally.

It would be nice if Bosch had included a slightly better mitre gauge -- the fence on the mitre gauge could be longer and the mitre gauge slide wobbles badly in the t-track. However, for the money it is a great machine.

I do fine woodworking out of a small room in my basement. Previously, I'd worked without a table saw for about a year; just not enough room in that room. My girlfriend suggested I take out the workbench, and use door hinges to fold the workbench against the wall. That gave me enough room for a table saw, but not enough room for a table saw and the workbench in the 'up' position.
The base on the Bosch was the big selling point here, and the fact that while it's not a cabinet saw, it still makes pretty darn accurate cuts. The fence is sturdy, the top is flat, the motor has plenty of power for anything up to about 2". Portable saws aren't going to slice through 3" of rock maple, so no complaints there.
I've had the same blade on for six months now, and it's still making remarkably clean cuts; I can't figure out how someone reported back theirs was dull inside of a week, maybe they got a dud? I'll replace it when it's not making glue-ready cuts, but for now, it's all good.
The only, tiny weakness here? If you use the miter gauge for anything requiring accuracy, you're going to need to replace it as soon as you can afford to. It wobbles left and right in the slot, which means that two cuts with the miter set to 45 degrees might add up to 85 or 95 degrees, but rarely average out to a perfect 90. I built a miter sled to fix the problem; $10 of MDF, scrap maple for runners, and a few screws. A buddy of mine swears by the Incra miters, but those are $100+.
The zero-clearance insert (also sold on Amazon) isn't bad, but if you press downward too much with a piece of wood, the insert bends down, and the cut will be at a slight angle. Not a sturdy piece of plastic. The fix is pretty simple, but time consuming again; take a piece of hardwood and build the inserts yourself.

I wish all the manufacturers would drop the t-slot.

I've only had it about a month and have only been cutting pine, but I've found little to criticize. It is precise and solid. With a good Freud blade I've been cutting thin 8' pine strips as little as 1/16" across with great accuracy and very smooth cuts. Seems to have plenty of power and - for me a key selling point - excellent safety features: riving knife, anti-kickback pawls and blade guard, which are easily attached and removed.
So if I were to criticize:
- a little play in the t-slot miter gauge. Probably not enough to create noticeable inaccuracies though.
- no locking mechanism for blade height. But I haven't seen it shift yet, although it may get looser with time.
- doesn't direct sawdust down chute very well. Tends to spray it all over the place, including face and eyes - make sure you wear wrap-around eye protection. But then this is probably typical of contractor saws.
- kind of a tight squeeze to get blades on and off the arbor. I'd be ok with this if it increased sawdust control, but it doesn't.
Overall though, I'm very happy with purchase and would recommend it.

My options were to take it over 100 miles away to a Bosch service center, return it, or try to adjust it myself. It took almost 2 hours to unpack it and assemble it (most time was spent on the stand), so I didn't want to pack it back up and return it. I found that the arm that holds the knife housing was tilted, so I placed two washers (which had to be cut in half with a Dremel) under the knife housing assembly to shim it up. It works fine now, and I've gotten some good use out of it. But, I was pretty disappointed at having to go through all that after spending as much money as I did on the saw.

All things considered, this is a good portable saw for the price. I'd have gone with a larger saw if I had room for one, but I have to be able to tuck my tools off to the side in order to put my vehicles in the garage.
Rather than go into detail about what it does well, I'll just list my complaints:
- The included blade is of mediocre quality (though that's to be expected from stock blades these days)
- The texture of the table top looks like bead blasted metal, but from what I can tell it's some sort of spray coating. It's rubbing off in some areas to reveal a smoother surface underneath. Honestly, I'm not sure why they didn't just leave it that way.
- The included miter gauge fits sloppily in the slot. I had to purchase an aftermarket unit with adjustable width in order to make decent crosscuts.
- There is no way to lock the blade height, so it may change gradually because of vibrations or accidental nudging as you work. This can be a problem if you are doing partial cuts (such as dadoes for box joints) and need a constant depth.
- A considerable amount of dust goes to the floor under and behind the saw, even when hooked to a shop vac.
- The blade tilt adjustment is awkward. It has positive stops at 45 and 90 degrees, but anything else is best done with a good angle gauge and a helper to hold it in place while you use both hands to set the blade angle.
- The storage for the included push stick is on the back of the saw, instead of one of the sides where it would be easily in reach.
59.) Good but not Great

After returning (2) DeWalt 744 contractor saws because of rack and pinion fence problems. I ordered the Bosch 4100-09. Reviews of this saw were promising. Upon receipt and setup of the saw (made harder because the box contained NO manual or Gravity rise stand instructions.) I was able to download the Gravity rise manual (only to find it was the older version) and didn't match 4100-09 saw stand.) I muddled through and figgered out on my own. Then to my chagrin the Square lock fence was off by 1/16 of an inch front to rear. There is no way that is obvious to square the fence to the table. It is spot on from the factory or else (what?) return the saw? I have an e-mail request into Bosch on this. Depending on what they reply this saw may *also go back to Amazon.com. Replacement? Not sure yet. WHY ME????

I bought this 10' saw with the hope of replacing my 8-1/4" Makita job-site table saw. Unfortunately the good people at Bosch seem to have been asleep when they engineered this saw. Just try to rip a piece of plywood. It is dangerous if not impossible. Rousseau makes an aftermarket table and fence for a number of saws but they do not seem to make it for this one. What a shame. When you are cutting smaller stock it does a much nicer job than the Makita. Unfortunately I cannot replace the saw so now I just have to keep two of them in the shop.

I am a licensed contractor with over fifteen years in the trades and I am sad to report that this tool is the biggest lemon i have ever purchased in that time! Firstly, this particular saw gave up the ghost( that would be a failed armature) after only 14 months and less than 50 hours of use. How convenient for me that the magic 12 months of warranty were behind me when this saw died 2 months later. As a professional I am compelled to maintain my tools and keep them in good working order for obvious reasons.
All my equipment is cleaned after use; vaccummed or blown out with compressed air so a build up of sawdust etc. cannot be attributed to the aforementioned failure in the motor. My other complaints about this saw even before its meltdown are its lack of practical ergonomics and quite possible the worst ripfence system ever devised!
Older models of this saw used to include a collapsible stand that broke down flat like a card table and was great for jobsite portability. The gravity stand, while it may look like a cadillac on the sales floor is a cumbersome beast that requires attachment of the saw to the stand with four bolts and makes moving the saw independent of the stand impossible without their removal. Every time!
While I acknowledge that hardly any ripfence is 100% true even from the factory, the fence on this saw was abysmally out of square from the get-go. The fence clicks on and off the saw table and is locked into position with a tension knob at the rear of its length. Even wrenched down there is so much lateral play in the thing that the operator is forced to measure the fence to the blade at two points and repeat the process with any change in the dimension of stock desired.
Bosch tools are like too many other products, made exclusively in Taiwan and now riding on the cache of an old name. There is simply no excuse for such lousy craftsmanship on a tool that is price pointed where this one is! Save yourself the indignity of being the next poor shlub to write a long winded rant and buy a friggin Delta!
